DEFINITION OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION:

'Physical Education is the planned, progressive learning that takes place in school curriculum timetabled time and which is delivered to all pupils. This involves both ‘learning to move’ (i.e. becoming more physically competent) and ‘moving to learn’ (e.g. learning through movement, a range of skills and understandings beyond physical activity, such as co-operating with others). The context for the learning is physical activity, with children experiencing a broad range of activities, including sport and dance. '  (afPE)

‘The more that different sectors – those in school sport, those in community sport - can work together, the greater impact
we will have’

(Mike Diaper OBE, Director of Community Sport, Sport England)

‘'There has to be a multi-agency approach from parents ,carers and right across and it has to be linked with diet and exercise’

(Sue Wilkinson CBE, Chief Executive, Association for Physical Education)

‘Surely, we should, by now, have embedded a culture of co-operation and of appreciation of the importance of exercise for the young. That should be embedded in every school’

(Graham Stuart MP, Chair of Education Committee School Sports Following London 2012)

Given that the accountability of Primary PE Premium spending rests with the School, best practice suggests that at least the following documentation is collated for hard copy and online availability:

  • Breakdown of PESS Premium spend and impact

  • Updated PE Policy

  • Subject development plan (transparent work in progress)

  • Curriculum map

  • Schemes of work / lesson plans

  • Updated Assessment strategy / policy

  • Gifted & Talented / More Able register

  • Directory of quality-assured community club links

  • INTER Competition results (SGO link)

  • INTRA Competition results

N.B: Given Ofsted's recent report into State Competition, it can be concluded that this is an area of concern that is likely to attract raised attention within future inspection.

  • Olympic & Paralympic values profiling

  • School organising crew / sport school council representatives

  • Active links with Secondary school sport leaders

  • Play leaders plan of delivery / case study

  • Kitemarks / Accreditations

DfE expectation is that the impact of Primary PE Premium funding is felt keenly and evidently across the whole school community therefore online profiling is especially relevant to keep parents / families; Governors ; PTA and community club coaches appropriately informed of key developments.

Furthermore, it is an opportunity to celebrate the subject and your hard-working efforts.
